If you’re interested in learning where to dig your own fossils in Utah, you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, you’ll get a deep dive –pun intended– into U-Dig Trilobite Quarry and learn everything you need to know about this family-friendly Utah attraction.

Overview of U-Dig Trilobite Quarry

So, what is U-Dig Trilobite Quarry? Allow us to explain. This local attraction boasts 40 acres of the best trilobite shale in the world. A trilobite is an extinct form of marine life (about 550 million years old!) that once roamed the sea floor. However, all that remains now is an enormous fossil collection ranging in specimens sized one-eighth of an inch to two inches long.

U-Dig Quarry provides every customer with a high-end experience searching for their very own trilobite fossils. They provide all the necessary tools for excavation and allow guests to keep the ancient goodies they find.

Where is the U-Dig Trilobite Quarry?

U-Dig Quarry is located right here in Millard County, which is about 52 miles west of Delta, Utah. If you’re traveling from Delta, continue west on Highway 6/50 until you reach the U-Dig Fossil sign. Once you hit the sign, turn north and travel about 20 miles down the well-maintained gravel road until you reach the quarry.

How Long Should I Plan to Stay?

We recommend spending at least two hours digging in the quarry. Two-hour access costs $33 for adults and $19 for children aged 7-16. Kids under seven years of age can dig for free! Of course, if you want to dig for longer than two hours, you are more than welcome to do so. U-Dig offers half-day access (4 hours for $49 per adult, $33 per child aged 7-16) and full-day access (8 hours for $90 per adult, $58 per child) as well.

Do I Need to Make a Reservation at U-Dig Quarry?

Many people wonder whether they need a reservation to dig at the quarry. If you’re looking to plan a last-minute fossil adventure, you’ll be happy to hear that the answer is no, reservations are not needed.

The U-Dig Quarry’s business hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., so guests are free to come whenever they want to stop by. Simply book online or pay at the door when you arrive and prepare for an unforgettable adventure.
