Painter Springs
A treasure of the desert
A beautiful canyon full of pink granite. Large boulders are strewn across the landscape, some in fanciful forms. This area is located on the west side of the House Range in the Tule Valley, views of Notch Peak from the west side are incredible. This is great area for rock hounding, to look for Albite, Biotite, Diopside, Garnet, Molybdenite, Gold, Pyrite, Quartz, Scheelite, Tourmaline, Tremolite, Vesuvianite, Wollastonite. This same area is also a great area for rock climbing. The granite upthrust make for some interesting climbs. There are three canyons including Painter Springs, a canyon just to the south and the main canyon leading into the base of Notch Peak. All three canyons offer a variety of skill levels to satisfy any rock climber. Check out Summit Post or other rock climbing post for more details.
